I'm going to close this since things seem to have at least mostly worked and installs have had a couple of weeks to yell at us if we blew anything major up, but let us know if anyone runs into further issues.

I'm so excited about this ticket :)

It's safe to do that (set utcInstanceEpoch = utcInitialEpoch for all events with a parentPHID where utcInstanceEpoch is currently NULL), with one minor caveat.
Would it be safe for me to write a migration that sets utcInstanceEpoch equal to utcInitialEpoch on every row in the calendar_event table?
After running the migrations, some instances of recurring events end up with null for the utcInstanceEpoch column. I'm not sure how this happened, however, as some of the instances have a value that matches utcInitialEpoch and I'm not entirely sure what the purpose of utcInstanceEpoch would be. If it matches InitialEpoch then it seems kinda useless, as does null...
@epriestley: Sounds good to me, this seems quite sensible in every way.

Here's what I'm planning to do for imports:

That's some pretty awesome support for an unsupported prototype. Kudos!

Rough overall state of the world is that "all the hard stuff" is mostly "done" but it's probably fairly buggy, so I'm going to push on exports and some UI stuff for a bit and try to catch all those bugs while I do. Also imports are probably hard but I'm going to imagine that they aren't for now.
Yeah, agreed.
Nice idea! Also would be good to flip Description / Invitees boxes on the view page.
I think I'm going to move the recurrence controls to a separate screen, so you'll make a recurring event in two parts:

@epriestley: if you still haven't figured out how to trigger the calendar event ui in gmail, maybe these headers are part of the secret sauce? [ 1 ]

@epriestley - you are doing wonderful work! This is by far, the best ICS implementation I've ever seen :) better even than commercial products claiming ICS compatibility and wonderful features ;)

The examples that use the BYSETPOS and WKST rules are omitted, because these rules are not supported by Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE.
I've take a look at T7944#194982 and from my understanding you are waiting for some use case to select the best approach.
In my case it's a really simple one and corresponds to display a widget of timeline events, so it's a "kind" of Absolute events.
As I work in french, an iso8601 date representation would be appreciable in order to convert to french date representation.

Some somewhat-good news is that Google Calendar just gives you an .ics blob of garbage to describe recurrence rules:
Things don't look promising.
I think we should be able to accommodate that fairly easily.
Here are 2 use-cases which are both essentially the same in all the important ways:
