FWIW, I tested on the latest version of Chrome, Firefox and Safari on osx and the result is the same on all 3 browsers

I suspect this has never worked and it isn't trivial to fix. D14168 is just some nearby code cleanup that I did while I was looking at it.

This was indirectly resolved by the switch to prose diffs in T7643.
