Columns should be able to be "hidden"
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

This is to support sprints / milestones / etc where completed tasks are in the columns.

These columns should be hidden from the board, but otherwise show up as they always do.

"Why do they call it delete when they mean hide?"

I agree that this is a good approach for solving also the use case of T5115.

I think the sprint/milestone case might also end up rolling up into subprojects (T3670).

FWIW we just had a meeting with the early adopters of Phabricator at our org, and the inability to delete (or get rid of) an empty column (visually empty since full of closed tasks), was reported by several people at their #1 annoyance.

Sorry if I've overseen something... This means that deleting columns is not possible? I just added some columns for testing, and would like to clean up again to add the columns I really need. I have 5 columns, but I'll only need 3 - So renaming wouldn't be a workaround.

Correct, you will find you can't delete much of anything in Phabricator, as an explicit design decision. Some items are destructible if needed via the command line, looks like Columns are, if you can fish around the database and find the PHID.

Also, generally recommend Ponder or Conpherence if you have general questions about Phabricator. Old tickets may not be the most relevant.
