Copy Comment
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

We put task checklists and bulletpoint jobs into comments, with updates as successive comments. This gives a nice timeline and lets us view rolling progress on the activity feed.

To do this, we have to either edit the previous comment, copy the contents over then amend the previous checklist, or quote previous comment and delete the remarkup (eurgh).

This is perfectly useable, but somewhat clunky and doesn't feel like a "clean" way of working.

It would be nice if, alongside "quote" we had a "copy" option on comments. The copy option would drop the text of the comment into the new comment box.

Unless I'm overlooking something, view raw leads to the same workflow as edit: still need to select and paste into comment box

"View Raw" is our solution to the problem you describe. It allows you to review the Remarkup in any comment and paste wherever you like. "Edit" is only available to the comment owner.

Please see Contributing Feature Requests for what we look for in feature requests. Specifically we want to understand core problems and workflows, not just add features someone finds might be useful. If this shortcut would save your team so much time, it'd be better served for us to know what specifically you're doing and if we should have better products built around that need. Overall this feels like a workaround.

Also keep in mind requests are competing against thousands of others, and we always pick tasks based on impact across all installs. This makes low impact tasks linger for years unfortunately.

This request doesn't describe a root problem, so we can't develop a solution to it. We haven't received any new information in more than a month. See Describing Root Problems and Contributing Feature Requests for help describing root problems and filing feature requests that the usptream can accept.
