Description

When you have the conpherence sidebar open and have never joined a Conpherence, it gives no visual identification on how to close it.

For example, if like myself, I accidently opened it and had to ask in irc to find out "\" closed it

We should also implement the manual switch for a second means of discovering opening and closing.

There is supposed to be a menu icon there, so there is a bug somewhere. Do you have no Conpherences at all, perhaps?

To be explicit:
This was the actual underlying issue with another bug report in our Phab instance: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T135024

We have Conpherence enabled for all users but not all users are in a Conpherence (obviously) so this bug manifested. This user thought it (the sidebar) was always on with no way to disable in preferences (I believe).
