Currently if you reference a wiki page like this: 2011-05 May - 2011-07 July, it doesn't use the title of the wiki page (just the URL name). Instead it should use the wiki page's title by default (because "may_2011_july_2011" looks silly)

We currently have a consistent way of creating links where you specify a full URI for an external link and anything else is guessed to be a wiki doc, and you may optionally provide a title, else the URI is used as the title.
While we can easily be smarter for the wiki as you suggest, we cannot easily be smarter for external links, which (for example) could even be down at the time of editing.
I think its thus better to be consistent here for overall ease of use, as opposed to do some magic for wiki links only.
