Give UI feedback after a task has been moved
Closed, WontfixPublic

Description

This problems happens to me often: our Phabricator server is starting to have a lot of users so it's not super fast and when moving a task between workboard column, it can take 1 to 2 seconds for the modification to be done. This means if you drag a task then soon afterwards attempt to drag another one, the UI will not respond and there's no intuitive feedback. You will need to wait for the first task to be done moving (which as I finally noticed recently is reflected by its dimmed state), before moving the other one.

General notes:

  • 2 seconds per modification is really bad. I'd much rather provide better performance diagnostic tools than tailor the UI to work well when incredibly slow.
  • The dimmed state is already an indicator, but maybe it should be made more visible.
  • We do show a spinner in the lower right, but I think it's not visible on Workboards because of positioning or z-index CSS rules.

OK maybe not 2 seconds, but watch this movie (I show the UI problem of dragging not working at the very end):

I'll poke at CSS

This isn't a CSS issue, it should display fine. We're just not triggering the js to show the indicator.

The dimmed state is pretty obvious to my eye (it has possibly changed since this was originally filed) and we haven't seen feedback from other installs about this being difficult to parse visually. If we did see more feedback in this vein, I'd want to start by making the dimmed state more aggressive.

The spinner code doesn't invoke on the current pathway, but the animation takes a second to fade in anyway (by design, to avoid flicker for short requests) so it wouldn't really change anything here in reasonable situations.
