Outlook sometimes does not display usernames
Closed, WontfixPublic

Description

when we get the mail we are getting mail but we are not getting name as the user who has submitted the request(diffrentical). I am not getting the context on who submitted what changes I am getting the name in thunderbird but not in outlook .

We are having this problem with only few mail clients(Outlook etc). The names are being displayed with Thunderbird, OS X default mail client etc. It appears like Outlook is not accepting the alias names being set.
is there any way to add committer's name in the email content, so that we have an idea on who's committing what.

  • T4896 will likely add an initial transaction here, which would put the username in the body text.
  • We haven't seen other reports of this, which leads me to think it may be a configuration issue (for example, maybe you added the default address to your address book, which could be overriding Outlook's default behavior).
  • Adjusting metamta.can-send-as-user may improve things.
  • We don't have a reasonable approach here outside of those options.

Hi I am using postfix to send the email using "PhabricatorMailImplementationPHPMailerLiteAdapter"
its sending mails via postfix we can see the sent maillogs in posfix maillog.
When we tried with default settings we are able to see the commiter name in outlook and outlook web access , but the problem is some time mails got bounced or blocked because of Microsoft (we are using office 365)blocking the email.
We tried with changing the metamta.can-send-as-user to true mail are blocked and error is

" status=bounced (host smtp.office365.com[132.245.92.210] said: 550 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to send as this sender (in reply to end of DATA command)) "

Please suggest me how can over come the issue with commiter name display

I think you have two basic options to resolve this

  • wait until T4896
  • switch mail providers

A possible third option is to follow up with Microsoft about how come they are bouncing these emails.

Good luck!
