My overall goal here is:

  • General UI refresh
  • Better consistency between UI elements (nav, lists, menus, crumbs)
  • Lessen use of sprites (gradients, app-icons) and reduce KB on the wire
  • Tie into dashboard/home "launch"

I like this a lot on ApplicationSearch and Conpherence. First impression on Home is that it's a touch bland, maybe? Let me patch it locally and poke around...

Yeah, it's not as awesome on home than the other places, and I can't quite figure out why, it'll get tweaked some more as I have ideas. Overall though I've been using it a few days and feels so much better than the old site. Having a hard time switching back.

I've found I use 15 apps on my sidebar, when I took a good pass at customizing. It all fits on my laptop ok.

I really like this after poking around a bit.

One small technical issue is that some apps do this, which is a touch funky:

I do feel like it would be nice to punch the homepage up half a notch somehow, but don't have any concrete suggestions for it yet.

The gradient on the app hover states in the crumbs feels a touch out of place to me now, too.

I'd like to smooth out the functional behavior of "Customize Applications..." before we move away from small tiles, and take a shot at making the "Applications" application a more usable application launcher. Let me get a couple of diffs out for those.

Unless you want to hold this for a while, I don't think we really need to keep this in a branch for very long (assuming @btrahan doesn't have feedback, at least). We could push it to secure for a couple of days to cover our bases.

Yeah, I still have probably 5-6 more diffs in my head for the redesign (including getting rid of blue and lightblue icons). I imagine this to be in a good state for secure in a week, a week of regular contributor feed there, then kill the branch.

Let me fix the count thing.

For amping up the apps, I'll probably revisit the icon colors we ship, and get them down to 1 color.

chad edited edge metadata.
  • Remove Blue App Icons
  • Update "Dark" App Icons
  • Fix warning count bug

By the way, I added some feedback around the sidebar in T5180 (mostly functional and less about design though).

chad updated this revision to Diff 22073.
