Attach to task using task name instead of task id
Closed, WontfixPublic

Description

Our workflow looks like:

  • Create feature branch with naming convention <FeatureId>_<FeatureName>
  • Author(s) publish their commit(s)
  • If some commit needs review we create Maniphest task named "Code review <FeatureId>_<FeatureName>"
  • Phabricator creates id for new task: T<TaskId>
  • When author(s) fix some of the issues, commit message must contain "Refs T<TaskId>" in order to relate commit(s) with task Problem here is that author(s) need to know/remember task id (it isn't unusual that author works on several features in parallel)

Would it be possible to relate commits and tasks using task name instead of id?

Example commit message:

"Some message"
Refs "Code review <FeatureId>_<FeatureName>"

Would trigger same action as:

"Some message"
Refs T<TaskId>

This feels fairly workflow specific to your company. I'm not sure how much value there is in the upstream to build and maintain this.

It also sounds like you're not reviewing everything, just Diffs that are referenced on the task.

I think Herarld is likely a better solution, have you explored that?
