Can we provide functionality to hide left menu bar to enlarge work space?

Can you be more specific, is this task for "any sidebar" or a sidebar in a specific application? Phabricator is responsively designed so small work areas should automatically hide the sidebar.

Dashboards will likely allow removing the 'apps panel' sometime down the road, when we let you build many of them. So on the homepage you should get what you want, eventually.

I don't see being able to hide/unhide a navigation bar globally as particularly useful in the upstream, and easy to hack for yourself locally. Our design is responsive overall, so the general feedback we get is in the opposite direction of 'please make everything much smaller/denser'. I can understand wanting it to be less distracting, which is why it was recently redesigned much lighter (see http://phabricator.org for the previous version).
